EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg is collaborating with hometown musician Bobby Pulido to bring Corafest, an inaugural celebration of Norteño music and culture.

Corafest will feature live performances by artists such as Reflejo Activado, Elvis Javier y Su Grupo Norteno and Ram Herrera.

Middle school and high school ensembles across the Valley will also perform to showcase and celebrate Conjunto and Norteño music.

"This is something that we're doing to showcase a talent. It's a competition," Pulido said. "The winner of the High School Division will get three songs produced by me, original songs with original songwriters."

Pulido is passionate to collaborate with the City of Edinburg to keep the culture of Conjunto and Norteño music alive.

"It is a culture, it's a way of life, it's a lifestyle," Pulido said. "I'm here to tell the kids you know, if you keep it up, I'm living proof that you can make a great career out of it."

"This event embodies a celebration of our heritage, pays homage to our musical traditions, and fosters unity within our community through the spirit of conjunto music," Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. said. "It is all corazon.”

The inaugural festival will also showcase local vendors, food vendors and arts and crafts for all ages.

Corafest will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 13 at the Edinburg Amphitheater, located on 200 W. McIntyre St.
