Beryl Brings Tropical Watches to the Valley

2 months ago 81

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Tropical Storm Beryl is entering the Bay of Campeche. It is expected to restrengthen to Hurricane status by Sunday.

The latest Cone of Uncertainty from the National Hurricane Center indicates the storm could remain off-shore of the Valley, and make landfall to our north.

However, we are still expecting some tropical impacts. The Coastal Bend is under a Hurricane Watch, meaning hurricane-force winds (>74mph) are possible (not promised!) within the next 48 hours.

The Valley will have a higher chance to see tropical storm-force winds (39-73mph). Sunday night into Monday, winds could gust near 60mph for the coast.

In addition, the Coastal Bend is under a Storm Surge Watch. This means water pushed inland by Beryl could cause dangerous conditions for the coastline.

Future rainfall estimates have dropped significantly. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in Cameron and Willacy Counties.
