A Harlingen woman was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a 71-year-old woman dead earlier this month.
Harlingen police arrested and charged Jennifer Banda, 32, with collision involving death, tampering with evidence and making a false report.
The allegations stem from a Jan. 10 incident when Aida Garcia, 71, of Harlingen was struck by a vehicle driven by Banda in the 300 block of North Business 77, police said in a news release Sunday.
Police said the vehicle involved “fled the scene immediately after the collision.”
Investigation led police to Banda who was arrested and whose bonds are set at a combined $171,000.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Aida Garcia during this incredibly difficult time,” police said in the release. “(T)his arrest represents the tireless effort of our investigators to bring justice for the victim, and we remain committed to ensuring accountability for this tragic incident.”
