Another sizeable earthquake recorded in Scurry County

SCURRY COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Another sizeable earthquake has been recorded in Scurry County.

The earthquake, which the United States Geological Survey says was magnitude 4.8, happened 9 miles northeast of Hermleigh, which is about 15 miles east of Snyder and 24 miles northwest of Sweetwater, around 9:28 a.m. Friday.

Citizens from across the Big Country, including Abilene, have been calling KTAB and KRBC to report feeling the rumble and seeing their personal items start to shake.

One resident in Rotan said his window was damaged.

Did you feel it? Series of earthquakes strike Scurry County

A secondary earthquake registering at magnitude 3.2 was recorded around 9:40 a.m.

Earlier this week, a series of earthquakes, including one that was magnitude 4.9, struck in a similar location.

The earthquake magnitude scale shows that earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 2.5 to 5.4 are often felt but they only cause minor damage.

500,000 earthquakes of this scale are estimated to happen every year.
