AUSTIN, Texas – South Texas Health System Edinburg & STHS Children’s CEO Lance Ames has been appointed to serve on the Texas Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees through December 2026.

Founded in 1930, Austin-based Texas Hospital Association is the leadership organization and principal advocate for the state’s hospitals and health care systems.

According to its website, THA “enhances its members’ abilities to improve accessibility, quality and cost-effectiveness of health care for all Texans.”

The website says THA is one of the largest hospital associations in the country, representing more than 85 percent of the state’s acute-care hospitals and health care systems, which employ more than 400,000 health care professionals statewide.

Ames, who began his career with STHS in 2013, said:

“I’m honored to receive an appointment to the board of the Texas Hospital Association, an organization that has spent decades advocating for hospitals, caregivers and support team members to ensure adequate funding and resources are dedicated to meet the needs of each community in Texas.

“I look forward to representing the great people of the Rio Grande Valley and serving as a voice in the decisions being made about healthcare across the state, including our medically underserved communities across the region.”
