Alamo Fire Chief resigns after 36 years

ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Alamo Fire Chief Roy Contreras has resigned after serving the community for 36 years.

Chief Contreras's resignation will be in effect on June 24, according to a news release from the City of Alamo.

He served for the Alamo Fire Department for 36 years, including 18 years as a volunteer firefighter and 18 years as a city employee. He led the Alamo Fire Department as chief for the past eight years.

The release stated that Contreras accepted a new position as a fire captain for the City of Alton.

"After long and dedicated service with the City of Alamo, Chief Contreras will be taking his vas experience to the City of Alton," said Bobby Salinas, city manager. "We are happy for him and fully support his future endeavors. The City of Alamo wishes Chief Contreras the best of luck and success in his new role."

The City of Alamo Public Information Officer told ValleyCentral, Lt. Efrain Vasquez will serve as Interim Fire Chief.

Additionally, the City Commission will have an item on this upcoming agenda to accept the resignation and appoint the interim.
