Affidavit: Suspect in fatal San Juan crash admits to driving 109 MPH

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An affidavit from the San Juan Municipal Court provides new details on a fatal crash that occurred last week.

The crash happened at approximately 6:10 p.m., March 26 near the intersection of Raul Longoria Road and West FM 495 in San Juan.

Police arrived to the crash scene and observed a white Chevrolet Silverado and a black GMC Terrain.

Roberto Carlos Rios Rodriguez, the driver of the GMC Terrain was found dead at the scene.

The unidentified driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was hospitalized in critical condition.

An investigation revealed the crash was caused by a road rage incident involving a third vehicle that fled the scene.

San Juan police identified and arrested Roberto Victor Sotullo two days after the crash for his role in the crash.

According to the affidavit, Sotullo said on the day of the accident he was trying to get away from the white Chevrolet Silverado.

Sotullo later admitted to authorities he was traveling at speeds of 109 miles-per-hour "and when he saw that the Chevrolet Silverado crashed he was relieved," the affidavit continues.

After witnessing the crash, Sotullo left the scene and went home. He says he knew an accident happened and was aware that a person had died.

Sotullo was arraigned three days after the crash at the San Juan Municipal Court.

He faces charges of collision involving death and was issued a bond of $250,000.
