AUSTIN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — AAA Texas announced that the average gas price in Texas is $2.74 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The price is the same as this day last week and is 15 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
In major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in the El Paso area are paying the most on average at $2.88 per gallon while drivers in Laredo are paying the least at $2.58 per gallon.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.16, which is two cents more when compared to this day last week and six cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
"As spring approaches, demand for fuel increases due to more people traveling, and refineries are gearing up for the switch to summer blend fuel, a change that typically leads to higher retail gas prices," said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. "Although the Texas gas price average remained stable this week, drivers should be prepared for potential price increases at the pump as the warmer months roll in."
