5 Hidalgo County cities to receive part of $25M funding for 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Texas Congressional District 15 will receive more than $25 million following the passage of the 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act. The funds will be allocated to McAllen, Pharr, UTRGV, Edinburg, Peñitas and San Juan.

The House and Senate last week passed the legislation, which was signed into law by the President on March 9.

“The $25 million allocated through the 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act signifies more than just numbers on paper; it represents progress, opportunity, and investment in our future," said Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz. "From bolstering public safety initiatives, improving our water treatment and storage facilities, enhancing the McAllen airport terminal, and supporting vital community projects, these funds will directly benefit the people of TX-15. It's not just about bringing money back; it's about building a stronger, more resilient district where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.”

A complete list of projects funded by the 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act is as follows:

• $7,472,500 to the McAllen International Airport (MFE) for terminal improvements.
• $3,000,000 for Brooks County Public Safety Complex.
• $250,000 for a Karnes County Sheriff's Office Radio Communications Upgrade project.
• $1 million for Alice for the Elevated Water Storage Tanks Repair and Replacement project.
• $1 million for Pharr for the Lift Station Expansion project.
• $1.2 million for Alice for the Municipal Utility District Creation project.
• $1 million to the State of Texas for the Anzalduas Bridge Expansion Project.
• $500,000 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for Rio Grande Valley Manufacturing Incubator.
• $4 million to the City of Penitas for Liberty Road cost overruns.
• $1,394,655 to the City of Edinburg for the Lift Station No. 19 Force Main Realignment and Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project.
• $2,365,400 to the Angels of Love for The Angel House Emergency Shelter and Resource Center
• $2 million to the City of San Juan for San Juan Northside Park Youth and Recreation Center.
