Three San Juan police officers were hospitalized after they were stabbed Tuesday evening, according to Chief Leandro Sifuentes.

Sifuentes said officers were responding to a family violence call in the 400 block of Cancun Lane at around 7 p.m. when the stabbings occurred.

“The officers are good,” Sifuentes said. “They got stabbed, unknown object was the weapon. But they’re at the hospital, recovering. As of right now, the status is OK with them.”

Sifuentes said that a suspect has been apprehended and is currently being evaluated at a local hospital for his injuries. He said that he did not know the extent of the suspect’s injuries.

His identity has not been released.

The chief provided an update later Tuesday evening.

”I have spoken to officers and their families, I can confirm two officers are in stable condition in ICU and in good spirits,” he said. “The third officer is still unknown. I have not been able to see him. I will be at the hospital until the doctors can confirm the third officer’s condition.”
