SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An 18-year-old accused of stabbing three San Juan police officers was arraigned at the San Juan Municipal Court Wednesday afternoon.
Enrique Martin Ayala, 18, is faced with six charges for the stabbing which left all three officers hospitalized.
The teen received one charge of assault, three charges of criminal attempt capital murder, one charge of aggravated robbery and one of resisting arrest.
San Juan Chief of Police Leandro Sifuentes led a press conference on the details of what led up to Ayala's arrest.
According to Sifuentes, Ayala's mom called police saying she had been assaulted by her son.
Officers responded to the call at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the 400 block of Cancun Lane.
At the scene, officers interviewed and established probable cause to arrest Ayala.
During the arrest, Ayala was able to slip from the officers' grip, began to stab them with a kitchen knife and left the scene.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to assist with the case and began a man-hunt for Ayala which lasted one hour.
At one point in the night, authorities received another 911 call regarding Ayala when he attempted to steal a car from a family while armed with a different knife. The family called 911 and he was found shortly after.
Sifuentes says Ayala was found hiding next to a house and was taken into custody.
All three officers were transported to McAllen Medical where they remain in stable condition.
Ayala's bond is set at $3,255,000.
