The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an aggravated assault that left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies arrived around 8:08 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Walker Road in Donna in reference to a call for assistance.

When they arrived, deputy constables from Precinct 1 told deputies that they had engaged in a vehicle pursuit of a gray Jeep Cherokee, which was driven by a male “covered in blood” when he exited the vehicle, according to a news release.

The driver, whose identity has not been revealed, told authorities that he had just dropped off his 16-year-old brother at the Alamo Freestanding Emergency Room due to him being shot.

At the emergency room, medical staff told authorities that the 16-year-old had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transferred to a local hospital after he was stabilized.

The victim remains in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help providing any information that could assist in the case by calling the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office at (956) 383-8114. For those who want to remain anonymous call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers Hotline at (956) 668-8477 or submit an anonymous tip through that P3 TIPS app.
