HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced $1 million in federal funding for the "Safe Schools, Bright Futures," Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District project.
The project is to help students' mental health needs and enhance safety protocols through staff training, educational programs for students and hiring dedicated personnel.
"Our children should not be afraid to go to school, and parents should feel confident that their children will be safe in the classroom," said Gonzalez. "It's our responsibility to provide them with a safe and supportive learning environment. That is why I support Harlingen Consolidated ISD's initiative to actively prevent school violence."
Harlingen CISD's Interim Superintendent Veronica Kortan said this grant is not just financial support but an affirmation of a shared commitment to the student's safety and well-being.
