DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Yaqui Animal Rescue and Donna North High School will host a large-scale veterinary clinic providing low-cost spay, neuter, vaccination, and microchip services for 200 local pets on Saturday and Sunday.
Yaqui's news release says the event is supported by five veterinarians, 10 veterinary technicians, 20 students, and 20 volunteers. The goal is to offer affordable veterinary care to the community, with services priced at $35 or less, compared to the typical $300 to $500 at regular clinics, according to Yaqui.
The discussions in early 2024 with the Donna North Veterinary Science Program focused on creating a mobile clinic to serve underserved communities.
To support the mobile clinic initiative, Donna North has invested in spay and neuter medical equipment, allowing students to gain hands-on veterinary experience alongside veterinarians from across the nation.
Since April 2025, the program has successfully hosted three clinics, spaying and neutering a total of 235 pets. The upcoming clinic represents the largest effort to date, with significant community involvement and support.
The clinic will operate on Sept. 27 and 28, starting at 7 a.m. Pet drop-off is scheduled between 7 and 8:30 a.m. with surgeries beginning shortly thereafter.
