Woman arrested in deadly rural Mission shooting identified

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The woman accused in the shooting death of a man in rural Mission will be arraigned on a murder charge on Tuesday, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, identified as Kayla Gonzalez, is accused of shooting 43-year-old Gerardo Treviño.

Gonzalez will be arraigned at 1 p.m. at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center, according to a news release.

Gonzalez was booked into Hidalgo County jail on Monday and remains in custody, jail records show.

Background

At about 1:37 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to the 4200 block of J & A Drive for a call of shots fired.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of Gerardo Treviño inside the home.

A witness told authorities a woman, now identified as Gonzalez, was seen running from the location with a rifle.

She was arrested and the weapon investigators believe she used was recovered at the scene.
