BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman in a tortilleria, authorities announced.

Elisa Ramirez was arrested on a charge of assault that causes bodily injury to a pregnant person, a 3rd degree felony, according to the Cameron County Sherriff's Office.

At 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Cameron County Sheriff's deputies arrived to Tortilleria Crystal, located at the 3400 block of South Dakota Ave. in reference to a disturbance.

When they arrived, they met with a 20-year-old pregnant woman who said she was confronted and assaulted while at the tortilleria.

The pregnant woman stated Ramirez punched her several times and scratched her face and body.

Authorities reported the victims displayed signs of assault that were consistent with her story. She was freshly scratched in the eye, arms, chest and chin.

Deputies say the assault could have been started due to a dispute over a car.

Ramirez was transported to Carrizales Rucker Detention Center where she is pending arraignment.
