Windfern Neighborhood wins McAllen SHINES award for community spirit

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen and McAllen Public Works and its city-wide initiative, McAllen SHINES, recognized the first neighborhood Community Champion, Windfern Neighborhood.

According to the city, this area is known for its outstanding dedication to beautification efforts.

"There are a lot of neighborhoods that work hard. Windfern Neighborhood subdivision is in District 6. These guys are amazing. This neighborhood is a very proud neighborhood. They take care of their streets, they take care of their backyards, their front yards, the monument signs, you know, all the landscaping at the entrance of the neighborhood," said City Commissioner Pepe Cabeza De Vaca.

The McAllen SHINES Community Champion award is designed to recognize outstanding citizens and communities in McAllen who work hard every day to make the city a better place to live.
