Westgate Drive to close for Weslaco tunnel crossing project

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Weslaco, alongside the Hidalgo County Drainage District and Hidalgo County Precinct 1, is starting a tunnel crossing project under Westgate Drive.

According to a news release from the City of Weslaco, the project is expected to last approximately three weeks and will require a temporary closure of Westgate Drive.

Detour routes will be marked for drivers, and traffic will be rerouted through Milanos Road and Border Avenue.

Additionally, city officials state that the trail leading toward Westgate Drive will also be temporarily closed, and signage will be placed to reroute trail users to turn around at a safe point.

Drivers are advised to plan and take alternate routes to ensure a smooth commute.
