HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — National Teacher Appreciation Week is underway and Western Governors University has launched three scholarships.

Yvette Morales with WGU said, "To try and support and alleviate some of the teacher shortage, we have launched three scholarships, with opportunities here in the Rio Grande Valley for any buddy wanting to pursue higher education. We have WGU Loves Teachers, and WGU Become A Teacher scholarships valued up to $4,000. We also have an educational support professional scholarship valued at up to $5,000. Some of these scholarships are for current educational professionals. Those looking to upskill, who maybe want to pursue a master's program. We also have two for anybody who wants to start that journey. Maybe they're starting as a paraprofessional, maybe as a teachers' aide, and then want to continue that journey on to teacher licensure."
