WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Weslaco police are investigating an increase in auto thefts, according to the department's podcast.

Weslaco Police Chief Joel Rivera says vehicles such as GMCs and Chevys from 2022 to 2023 are the primary vehicles targeted.

It only takes a few minutes for thieves, whether day or night, to target a car, and within minutes it will be in Mexico, according to police.

Police say to remain vigilant. Regardless of the type of vehicle you drive, invest in some anti-theft equipment and practices.
