WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Weslaco Office of Emergency Management hosted a special meeting to launch the Mayor's Weslaco faith-based coalition on Tuesday.

The new coalition aims to bring together church leaders from across the community to enhance Weslaco's ability to provide essential services such as shelter, food, and elderly assistance, especially during times of crisis.

"This is a way to get ideas from different churches, knowing, we can provide this assistance," said Mayor Adrian Gonzalez. "So we're trying to get all these ideas on what they can do to provide those services that we may need in case of an emergency. We have a lot of elderly that are not able to move or cut their yards. Because we're out there enforcing the weedy lots, and the elderly need the help.

Gonzalez, city officials, and local faith leaders participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in building a stronger and more resilient Weslaco.
