WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — For the first time in Weslaco East High School history, the Indoor Percussion ensemble has claimed the championship title at a statewide competition.
The ensemble, Wildcat Regiment, competed at the Percussion and Winds TECA State Championships earlier this month in San Antonio.
The winning production was led by Assistant Band Director, Rene Peynado.
"It was a long time in the making. The show really pulled at the heartstrings," Peynado said. "That was the most important part of it."
Wildcat Regiment earned top honors for Best Music, Best Music Effect, Best Visual and Best Visual Effect.
"After hearing all the placements, I just had a big smile on my face. I was just so proud of these guys," said Ben Acevedo, percussion ensemble member.
"I was just super happy and honestly tearing up," said Maruia Fox, percussion ensemble member. "It was a lot of hard work but we all came together and everything started locking in and it got better from there."
