WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety says a suspected drunk driver from La Feria is dead and his pregnant passenger went into labor when he tried to pass another vehicle and crashed into another vehicle.

The accident happened at 6:30 p.m. on FM 1015 south of Mile 5 Line, south of Weslaco.

DPS troopers say a gray Toyota Scion that was occupied by a woman and two passengers was traveling southbound on FM 1015. They say a black Dodge Charger driven by 28-year-old Jorge Colung was traveling northbound and attempted to pass other vehicles in a no-passing zone.

They say Colunga unsuccessfully tried to veer back onto the northbound lane and collided with the Toyota.

The driver and a passenger of the Toyota were transported to a local hospital with injuries. A pregnant woman in Colunga's car was taken to an area hospital where she went into labor.

Troopers believe Colunga was drunk at the time of the accident. He died at the scene.
