WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Weslaco Independent School District 7th graders spent their day at the Fly High with Drones & Rovers Camp at Mary Hoge Middle School.
Wednesday's event was sponsored by UTRGV and College 1st, along with the Weslaco ISD GEAR-Up program. The students learned about the different applications of drones and rovers.
"It's important for us to host these types of camps, because students are right now exploring future careers," said Dr. Armando Cuellar, Middle School GEAR-UP Counselor. "These are the careers of the future. Some of these careers have not even been invented yet, so we're preparing students for careers that don't exist yet, but we're excited to be able to do that in partnership with UTRGV Gear Up."
Students rotated between multiple sessions guided by industry leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
