WILLACY County, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An investigation is underway after a Willacy County inmate was reported to fall off his bunk and hit his head, deputies say.
On April 17, the Willacy County Jail staff reported to dispatch that an inmate, later identified as Luciano Gutierrez, had fallen from his bunk and hit his head.
When jail staff arrived at his cell, they saw Gutierrez with cuts on his head and was later transported with a jailer to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, a release from the Willacy County Sheriff's Office stated.
Authorities attempted to speak to Gutierrez and the other inmates in the cell regarding the incident but refused to cooperate.
During the investigation, authorities learned that Gutierrez was assaulted by an inmate causing him to fall from his bunk and hit his head.
This is still an ongoing investigation, the release stated.
