Vista Ridge too much for Economedes, end Jaguars season

FLORESVILLE — Cedar Park Vista Ridge proved too much for Edinburg Economedes on Friday, with the Ranger scoring five first half goals and never looking back en rout to a 7-1 win over the Jaguars during a Region IV-6A DI semifinal match at Eschenburg Field in Floresville.

The Rangers advance to the Region IV-6A finals to take on Lake Travis, who defeated the Los Fresnos Falcons 3-1 earlier today.

Vista Ridge came out of the gate firing, scoring the game’s first goal just six minutes into the match. The Jaguars nearly answered not long after, but Rangers’ goalkeeper Abhijay Thunga managed to stretch out and stop Randy Galvan’s shot before making it past the goal.

The Rangers responded to the Jaguars’ near goal by pouring in four more of their own, taking a commanding 5-0 lead with 12:38 remaining in regulation.

The second half proved much of the same, with extending their lead to 7-0 during the first 20 minutes of the final period.

A late goal by Edinburg Economedes’ Juan Lugo got the Jaguars on the board, with the game ending in a 7-1 loss.

The Jaguars finish their season with a 22-3-1 overall record, clinching their second district title in the past three years and their first Sweet 16 appearance along the way.
