BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The organizers of RGV StartUp Week have made public a video of former Mexican President Vicente Fox’s recent appearance in Brownsville.
Fox participated in a “Fireside Chat” at Texas Southmost College’s Performing Arts Center. He was interviewed by Texas Tribune reporter Berenice Garcia.

Nathan Alexander Burkhart, vice president of entrepreneurship and innovation at BCIC, said it was quite a coup to get Fox to participate in RGV StartUp Week.
“I’m still amazed that we brought President Fox to Brownsville—marking the first time a Mexican President has visited since Miguel Alemán Valdés in 1964 (when he was the first Mr. Amigo for Brownsville),” Burkhart said.
Burkhart said a lot of folks have asked him why Fox was chosen as keynote speaker for the entrepreneurship summit. He said the answer is simple.
“His journey, from driving a Coca-Cola truck to becoming President of Mexico and breaking a 71-year political stronghold, embodies the kind of resilience and ambition we aimed to inspire at this year’s conference,” Burkhart said.
“In a region where entrepreneurial success is deeply tied to international trade, and where policy decisions in Washington ripple through our local economy, we wanted a voice that could speak to the power of leadership, global cooperation, and free markets.”
Burkhart said “huge thanks” should go to BCIC, UTRGV’s Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center, Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Brownsville. He also thanked Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages and the Tribune for their “generous support.”
Burkhart added: “Planning for next year is already underway.”
