MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Memorial Day ceremony held in McAllen on Monday remembered the U.S. military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
City leaders and community members gathered at the Texas Veterans War Memorial to honor the 1.4 million who gave their lives in defense of the United States of America.
"It's one day out of the year to remember our fallen comrades. I remember my fallen comrades every day by coming to these Memorial Day ceremonies to spread the awareness of their sacrifice, so that it is remembered throughout the community," said Veteran Jesus Bocanegra.
Bocanegra added that it is important for the community to understand that the freedom that we enjoy today was paid for with the blood, sweat, and tears of our fallen service members.
