EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCental) — The Vaqueros football team is coming off its bye week and preparing for its upcoming game against Lamar.

This Saturday, the Vaqueros will face off against Lamar, which will officially kick off the second half of the Vaqueros' inaugural season.

Head Coach Travis Bush says the upcoming game is a chance to see how the Vaqueros can match up against a top-ranked Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team.

"Let's go see how we stack up with the top 20 team in the country," Coach Bush said.

Earlier this month, the Vaqueros came off their first Southland Conference win against Houston Christian University.

Bush and the rest of the team hope to build off the momentum of their latest win to steal a win from Lamar.

"Week in, week out, no matter who you're playing, it's going to be about execution," Bush said.

The Vaqueros will face Lamar on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
