Vanguard Academy celebrates Women in History Month

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Vanguard Academy hosted a ceremony on Tuesday honoring Women in History Month.

The ceremony focused on honoring distinguished female Mission leaders from various sectors, advocacy champions, and role models both past and present who have tirelessly worked to uplift the Mission community.

"We have 14 honorees today and it's been an honor to see them come out and read about their accomplishments and see how the world we live in is different because of their investment in our community, said Tim Brown, School Board Member at Vanguard Academy.

These women not only hold essential positions but also have made significant differences in the lives of children, families, and the border community.

Students were also in attendance at the ceremony.

"We hope that they're inspired to do something for their community," he said. "You know we may not change the entire world but we may change the world around us and that's what we want them to understand, change your world."

Notable award recipients included U.S. Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, Chief Gloria Chavez U.S. Border Patrol RGV Sector, Chief Justice Dori Contreras, 13th Court of Appeals, Councilwoman Jessica Ortega, City of Mission, and Brenda Enriquez, President and CEO, Mission Chamber of Commerce and other distinguished leaders from various sectors.
