Born in Mission in 1973, Hinojosa chose to make her announcement in the Rio Grande Valley, highlighting her roots and connection to the region.

She is the daughter of Gilberto Hinojosa, who served as the Texas Democratic Party Chair from 2012 to 2025.

Hinojosa’s team says she's running to fight for working families and support public education.

The Rio Grande Valley, once a Democratic stronghold, has shifted in recent years, including support for former President Donald Trump.

Gov. Greg Abbott is seeking a fourth term.

The primary election is scheduled for March with at least eight candidates in the race.
