HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Valley International Airport just announced $4.5 million will be used for a new air traffic control tower.
The new tower joins a whole set of upgrades that the airport received over the last year. The funds originate from the FAA, allowing the airport to replace the outdated tower.
Marv Esterly, the Director of Aviation at the airport, stated they will move “into a temporary control tower as soon as all the funding goes in place. And that will start construction probably in the third quarter of 2024.”
In addition to the tower, covered parking has been installed and crews are working on nearly 2 miles of runway expansion.
Officials say even more projects are in the works, and expect the construction of the new tower to be completed next year, with the runway expansion done by the end of April.
