HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Valley International Airport in Harlingen was granted additional funding from two federal agencies.

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced $1.28 million in funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration will be allocated to the infrastructure development and expansion efforts at the Valley International Airport.

"Valley International is a vital gateway into South Texas," Gonzalez said. "This federal investment in the ongoing infrastructure improvements is also an investment in our region's ability to serve South Texas passengers, visitors, and our local economy."

Gonzalez previously secured millions in federal funds for Valley International Airport to expand its runway and to install a new air traffic control tower.

"We are deeply grateful to Congressman Vicente Gonzalez for his steadfast support in securing this critical FAA AIP grant to update the Airport Master Plan at Valley International Airport," said Valley International Airport Aviation Director Marv Esterly.
