Valley fights against homelessness

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Homelessness is something that continues to be prevalent in the Rio Grande Valley and across Texas.

Here in the Valley, it is less common to see encampments of people struggling with housing. Valley officials say that is thanks to strategic plans in place, but that homelessness is far from being solved.

The video above helps shed some light on how, in some cases, mental health and substance abuse can go hand in hand with homelessness.

I spoke to officials in the Valley who are providing resources to combat homelessness, and to a man who says he understands what it's like to need housing.
