EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg, alongside Hidalgo County and cities of Alamo, McAllen, Mission and Pharr, held a Joint Regional Hurricane Preparedness press conference.

The meeting took place on Friday at the Edinburg City Hall, where they discussed crucial information regarding the cities' disaster response plans, past experiences and available resources before and after a hurricane strikes.

"Hurricane season is starting this weekend, June 1, and we wanted to make sure to remind residents to prepare," said Ramiro Garza, Mayor of Edinburg.

Garza added, this not only applies to being prepared for hurricane season but being prepared for unexpected weather, such as the severe flooding that occurred in March 2025.

"All the cities, we are here to work together, we're here to work as one region," he stated.

Garza emphasized that the meeting is about preparedness, plan ahead, and stay alert for anything that may come our way.
