RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The UTRGV student organization ENACTUS distributed holiday meals on Monday to Rio Grande Valley families in need.
The annual event called "Cansgiving" began in 2015 with about 25 families served. Today it has reached to about over 1,000 this year.
"The families are grateful. We give them a meal for Thanksgiving, and we hope it goes a long way," said Josiah Gonzalez, Treasurer for ENACTUS. "It feels good helping the community. With classes and work to balance on top of it, but on top of all the stress, makes you feel good."
UTRGV Enactus and volunteers spent Friday at the RGV Food Bank in Pharr, filling bags with fresh vegetables and canned goods for distribution at community centers throughout Hidalgo and Cameron counties.
