MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley officially established the Subram G. Krishnan M.D. and Sumant "Butch" Krishnan M.D. Endowed Chair for Orthopedic Surgery.

Tuesday morning's press conference celebrated the establishment of the first endowed chair in orthopedic surgery at the UTRGV School of Medicine.

"What this will enable us to do is to recruit and retain the best orthopedic surgeons," said Guy Bailey, UTRGV President. "This is the third chair the Krishnans have endowed for the university. They have been with us every step of the journey. What we've accomplished in the medical school was, in part, attributed to them."

This initiative aims to empower the next generation of physicians and transform health care in the region.

In 2024, the university's simulation hospital in Harlingen was renamed the UTRGV Drs. Subram G. and Elizabeth G. Krishnan Simulation Hospital.
