The nine UTRGV students who had their visas revoked earlier this month all had their records reactivated as of Monday, according to a university official.
“Through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a federal web-based system for maintaining information on nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors, UTRGV learned that all nine students whose records had been terminated were activated as of Monday, April 28, 2025,” Patrick Gonzales, vice president of university marketing and communications for UTRGV, said in a statement.
The revocations of visas came after the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services “will begin considering aliens’ antisemitic activity on social media and the physical harassment of Jewish individuals as grounds for denying immigration benefit requests.”
A wave of lawsuits filed by students followed the revocations, including four UTRGV students who filed a federal lawsuit in Brownsville against the U.S Department of Homeland Security and its officials.
The Trump administration walked back its student visas cancellations last Friday, with the Department of Justice stating that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is working on a new system for reviewing and terminating visas for international students.
Until the new system is complete, no student will have their visa terminated.
