EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — After a successful 2025 season in which UTRGV baseball won 36 games, the Vaqueros will hope to once again have a strong season.
Before they can go out and play games, they first need to know who they are playing. On Wednesday, the university announced the 54 game schedule.
The schedule is a daunting one to start the season. They open with a three-game series versus Kansas. They then have a one-off versus Texas Tech before a three-game series versus Houston.
Then, it's another major test when they play Texas. The Vaqueros will then begin Southland Conference play versus Lamar on Feb. 27.
UTRGV is testing themselves with a strong non-district schedule that they will hope prepares them for conference play. The tough non-district schedule is a testament to the strong tradition the baseball program has built over decades.
Clearly Coach Derek Matlock places a lot of trust in his team and hopes a tasking schedule can only make the Vaqueros better.
