UTRGV Athletics give first look of Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley gave ValleySportsCentral a first look at the newly improved Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium.

The UTRGV Athletics Department is gearing up for its first college football season at the stadium located east of the university.

In December 2024, the university announced the stadium would undergo a $20 million, 10,500 square foot renovation which included redesigned locker rooms and pressbox renovations.

According to the university website, the field has been lowered to improve sight lines for those who the 39 existing field level suites and patios.

It also has an additional 184 premium seats, including the addition of 19 loge boxes, each of which contains six seats, in the north end zone.

The redesign includes and additional 2,000 bleacher seats in the south endzone. In total, the stadium will hold a crowd of around 12,000.

Construction was completed this summer, with last minute details being worked on this month. The stadium is now ready for the Vaqueros first 2025-2026 college football season.

The Vaqueros are scheduled to play the first five home games at 7 p.m. and the last two at 5 p.m. at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium, according to the news release.

• Langston v. UTRGV at 7 p.m. on Sat. Sept. 13 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
• Texas Wesleyan v. UTRGV at 7 p.m. on Sat. Sept. 20 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
• Houston Christian University v. UTRGV at 7 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 4 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
• Incarnate Word v. UTRGV at 7 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 25 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
• Nicholls v. UTRGV at 5 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 8 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
• East Texas A&M v. UTRGV at 5 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 22 at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium
