EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the Vaqueros Football team's first college football season.
The first Vaquero football game is scheduled for August 30, 2025, against Sul Ross State.
The Vaquero Football team is scheduled to play its first five home games at 7 p.m. and its two at 5 p.m. at Robert and Janet Vackar Stadium, according to the news release.

The first five games will be played during the daylights savings time while the final two are during standard time.
Tailgating will begin five hours before the scheduled game time, approximately 2 p.m., for the first five games and noon for the last two games.
Gates to the stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. for the first five games and 3:30 p.m. for the last two games.

After a week two trip to Prairie View A&M, the Vaqueros football team will return home for back-to-back games, against Langston on Sept. 13 and Texas Wesleyan on Sept. 20.
According to the release, the Vaqueros will open the Southland Conference play on Sept. 27 at Southeastern before playing its first Southland game against Houston Christian University on Oct. 4.
Following week 7, on Oct. 18, the Vaqueros are scheduled to visit Lamar. On Oct. 25, the Vaqueros are scheduled to have a home game against Incarnate Word, the number 6 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Division I Football Championship.
On Nov. 1, the Vaqueros will visit Stephen F. Austin, host Nicholls on Nov. 8, visit McNeese on Nov. 15 and end the regular season at home against East Texas A&M on Nov. 22.
