HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University Interscholastic League (UIL), the governing body for high school sports in Texas, announced in a press release that Progreso High School, as well as as the team's head coach, Damian Magallan, have been reprimanded.

Progreso High School has been placed on probation for two years and issued a public reprimand. Additionally, Magallan will be suspended for three games next season.

The UIL's investigation of the program dates back to last season when the Red Ants were forced to forfeit their undefeated season just minutes before their state semifinal in April because they had fielded an ineligible player.

In spite of the punishment, Progreso will be eligible to qualify for the postseason in 2026 and make a run at a state title.
