BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, (R-Texas) is visiting the Rio Grande Valley today to address a wave of threats against judges and courts across the nation.

In an effort to protect the courts, Cornyn introduced his countering threats and attacks on judges act, which he says passed the Senate in June. He is asking the House to do the same.

The new legislation has established a state judicial threat intelligence and resource center to provide technical assistance, training and threat monitoring for state and local judges and court personnel.

Cornyn will host a roundtable discussion with local and state court personnel, including shooting survivor Judge Julie Kocurek.

The roundtable discussion will begin at 1 p.m. at the Cameron County Courthouse central jury room, at 974 E. Harrison Ave, Brownsville.
