HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Rio Grande Valley law enforcement and the Texas Department of Transportation on Tuesday met at the Harlingen Travel Information Center for the Click It or Ticket campaign.

Both entities partnered for this special campaign enforcement period from May 19 through June 1 to focus on ticketing seat belt violators. This year's campaign returned with an oversized seat belt traveling across the state with the message to click it "Day and Night."

"This campaign is great, and we all look forward to working on it," said Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Treviño. "We'll be doing our part by stepping up more patrols to be out there doing the enforcement part. We want people to understand it's not so much about us out there giving the ticket. It's about the importance of wearing a seat belt. It takes a brief second, and in the long run, you're gonna understand the value of wearing a seat belt."

The Click It or Ticket campaign is an important part of TxDOT's Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. initiative.
