TxDOT proposes reconstruction on Ed Carey Drive

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation is asking for the public's input on a project proposal to reconstruct State Loop 499, commonly known as Ed Carey Drive.

The proposal includes widening the existing roadway to add lanes, installing bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, installing a raised median, and improving the bridge crossing the Arroyo Colorado.

TxDOT will host an in-person and virtual meeting for any public input on the proposed project.

The virtual public meeting will be available on the TxDOT website at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.

The online meeting option will have a pre-recorded presentation in English and Spanish, which will be available on the TxDOT website for 15 days.

TxDOT will also host an in-person meeting, which will also include the pre-recorded presentation in an open discussion setting with TxDOT representatives.

The in-person meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Treasure Hills Elementary cafeteria located at 2525 Haine Dr. in Harlingen.
