TxDOT launches campaign to lower child car seat fatalities

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation on Tuesday began its "Save Me With A Seat" campaign.

This year's campaign began with an interactive educational experience called "Are You Ready for Takeoff?" which lets children secure themselves in space seats to prepare for take-off, but also reminds parents of the importance of always buckling up their children.

According to TxDOT, last year, Texas saw a rise in the number of children younger than age 8 who were killed in a crash because they were not in a car seat.

TxDOT hopes to deter that trend by showing parents how to install car seats and reminding everyone to buckle their children up every ride, every time.

The "Save Me With A Seat" campaign coincides with National Child Passenger Safety Week,
Sept. 21-27.
