TxDOT holds workshop for South Padre Island access project

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Transportation is hosting a public information workshop to seek input on the South Padre Island Second Access Project.

According to a news release from TxDOT, during the workshop, TxDOT will share information on the project history, environmental studies, and show potential alternative connections from the Texas mainland to South Padre Island.

TxDOT invites community members to the public information workshop and attend at their convenience.

The environmental study that is underway is to explore the alternative connections to the Texas mainland, across the Laguna Madre, to South Padre Island.

According to TxDOT, the purpose of the second access project is to improve mobility and enhance public safety to access to and from SPI during an emergency evacuation.

TxDOT is offering a virtual option for those who can not attend in person at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The in-person meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the South Padre Island Convention Center, located at 7355 Padre Blvd. South Padre Island.

Displays will be available to view, and the community is invited to attend. Both In-person and virtual attendees will be able to view the same information and leave comments at the workshop.
