RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation announced several roadway maintenance projects that will impact travel for drivers throughout the 8-county TxDOT Pharr District, this weekend and next week.

Cameron County | April 19-20: FM 550/FM 511/I69E Frontage Roads, Ramps, Turnarounds
On Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20, road crews resume pavement work on the FM 550/FM 511/I-69E eastbound and westbound frontage roads and turnarounds, between I-69E and Charmain Lane, in Brownsville. Expressway entrance and exit ramps, segments of the frontage roads, and turnaround lanes will be intermittently closed between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. within the project limits. Drivers are advised to plan and find alternate routes to avoid delays.

Cameron County | April 22-23: FM 106
Travel on FM 106 in Cameron County will be impacted by pavement work, April 22-23, between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., in both directions. The travel lanes will be reduced from State Highway 345 to FM 1847 and drivers should anticipate traffic shifts within the project limits.

Cameron County | April 24-25: FM 499
Commuters on northbound and southbound Loop 499 in Cameron County should expect intermittent lane closures and traffic shifts, between I-69E and FM 106, from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.,
April 22-23. The lane closures could slow traffic; drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes.

San Juan/Alamo/Donna | April 23-24: I-2 EB & WB Frontage Roads, Ramps, Turnarounds
Travel on the I-2 eastbound and westbound frontage roads, between Stewart Road in San Juan
and Val Verde Road in Donna will be interrupted with intermittent closures on Tuesday, April 23,
and Wednesday, April 24, between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., for pavement work. Drivers should
expect I-2 on and off-ramp, lane, and turnaround closures while crews are present and are
encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Zapata County | April 23-25: US 83
On northbound and southbound US 83 in Zapata County, drivers could encounter slowing traffic
and possible delays, between the Web/Zapata County line and 3.5 miles to the south of FM 3169, April 23-25. Paving crews will be present from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. requiring lane closures within the project limits.

In all of these work zones, drivers are reminded to slow down, pay attention, watch out for construction workers, and allow extra time for their commutes. The Texas Move Over Slow Down
Law also requires drivers to move over one lane or slow down 20 mph below the posted speed
limit when emergency vehicles are present. Failure to comply could cost drivers a fine of up to
$2,000.
