Two Valley students recognized in statewide art contest

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two students from the Rio Grande Valley were recognized for their creative efforts in a statewide art contest hosted by Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The Texas Fish Art Contest is an effort by Texas Parks and Wildlife to expose students to fishing and conservation through creativity.

Texas Parks and Wildlife announced that Alyssa Trevino of Pharr is this year's Special Species Award Winner.

Trevino's art showcased the Guadalupe Bass, the official state fish of Texas.

Her artwork will be showcased at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens.

Camila Vasquez of McAllen was honorably mentioned for her artwork.

Both students participated in the 7th through 9th grade category.

A total of 485 entries were submitted to the art contest.
