Truck hits DPS unit while giving sobriety field test on expressway in Pharr

PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday in Pharr.

The accident happened before 7 a.m. on westbound lanes of U.S. Expressway 83.

According to authorities, a DPS trooper was stationary on the eastside improved shoulder assisting the driver of a black Chrysler vehicle. 

While helping the driver of the Chrysler, the trooper detected signs of intoxication from the driver.

The trooper was conducting Standardized Field Sobriety tests on the driver when a 2024 white Chevrolet Silverado, occupied by one driver, struck the rear passenger side of the DPS patrol unit.

The crash caused the DPS unit to strike the rear of the Chrysler.

DPS says the Chevrolet continued traveling westbound and rolled over.

Both drivers and the trooper were taken to an area hospital and are in stable condition.

DPS continues to investigating this crash.
